Currently, the notions of drawing and painting are undergoing a re-categorisation. For centuries drawing and painting have been technically highly diverse. This diversity has broadened immensely during the last hundred year—technically as well as medial. “DPS_DRAWING & PAINTING STRATEGIES” invites artists to talk about their strategies from a practical point of view. The program is conducted together with galleries and institutions.

2015 / Praxisseminar “Kunst und Nicht-Kunst im Kunstkontext” With Jens Badura and Philip Matesic | Zurich University of the Arts, MA Fine Arts.
Kunstkontexte sind vermehrt Räume zur Verhandlung von Fragestellungen und Debatten,die sich etwa mit Blick auf aktuelle politische Verhältnisse und Entwicklungenstellen oder unter dem Label Forschung geführt werden – um nur zwei Beispiele zunennen. Im Seminar wollen wir entlang von Fallbeispielen und vor allem mit Blick auf die eigenen Arbeiten gemeinsam untersuchen, welche sich verändernden Kunst– und künstlerischen Selbstverständnisse hinter diesen Entwicklungen stehen, wodurch Kunstkontexte heute eine spezifische Weise der Verhandlung ermöglichen, wie durchlässig die Grenze zwischen Diskursen innerhalb und ausserhalb vonKunstkontexten ist und was dies für das Verhältnis von Kunst und Nicht-Kunst bedeutet Kunstkontexten ist und was dies für das Verhältnis von Kunst und Nicht-Kunst bedeutet. Das Seminar umfasst neben Arbeitseinheiten mit Präsentationen und Diskussion eine Exkursion und schliesst auch die Abfassung eines schriftlichen Statements zum Thema ein, bei dem die eigene Positionierung formuliert und reflektiert werden soll.

Various media and techniques are used to outline different contents. From a practical point of view, it is most interesting to know how and why artists apply certain strategies of drawing and painting. In short presentations and in conversation with Daniel Morgenthaler, Koka Ramishvili, Claudia Comte and Michael Günzburger will reflect on these aspects of their work.

These notions are based on traditions, interests, and aims that – in practical terms – are undergoing acceleratedtransformation. This symposium seeks to draw attention to these developments.
